Association between Principal Diagnosis with Mental Diseases among Inpatients
Kim Sung-Soo

Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of the principal diagnosis among hospitalized patients with mental disorders and to investigate the association between the principal diagnosis and mental diseases as comorbidity.

Methods: The subjects of this study were patients with mental disorders, regardless of the main diagnosis, among the Korean National Hospital Discharge In-depth Injury Survey (KNHDS) from 2006 to 2018. Frequency analysis was performed on the general characteristics, principal diagnosis, and mental disorders of the study subjects. The associaion between the principal diagnosis and mental diseases was analyzed for patterns using association rule mining (ARM).

Results: The main result is that liver diseases are fairly associated with behavioral disorders due to psychoactive substance use. And then organic, including symptomatic, and mental disorders are associated with cerebrovascular diseases, Influenza and pneumonia, and other degenerative diseases of the nervous system. Mood disorders are linked to poisoning by drugs, medicaments, and biological substances.

Conclusions: It is necessary to raise awareness of mental diseases and to build a care cooperative system between diseases that are highly associated. It will be possible to monitor key association rules and apply them to clinical decision-making systems.
